Jamieson Appears on Distillations Podcast
Professor Dale Jamieson, director of environmental studies at NYU, recently appeared on Distillations, a weeky podcast produced by the Chemical Heritage Foundation.
In a segment on the European Union's new REACH legislation, which requires chemical manufacturers to test tens of thousands of compounds to comply with new safety standards, Jamieson discusses the difficulty of passing such legislation in the U.S.
"With the environment in general," he says, "it is very difficult to motivate people if people don't really see it as a moral challenge. I think it's important to recognize that in a well-functioning society, seeing something as a moral requirement empowers, enables, and allows government to act and to regulate."
