Dates: March 13-22, 2009 for travel,plus additional Class Session Dates on NYU campus: February 13, March 6, April 3, 2009

This course will offer an in-depth case study of the higher education system of Israel through a field trip that will include visits to universities and public and private colleges; meetings with students, faculty, and rectors; and discussions with sociologists and government and political leaders. Topics covered will include types of institutions, academic programs, student access and admissions systems, college climate and student services, institutional and national student unions, special initiatives for Arab and immigrant students, and relationship of higher education to the national agenda.
In addition to meeting on campus in N.Y., students will participate in on-site field trip in Israel that will provide an in-depth case study of its higher education system. Includes lectures from scholars and visits to 8 Israeli colleges and universities to meet with faculty, administrators, and students. Additional sessions will be held with directors of the national Council on Higher Education and a recent government commission on the future of higher education. Topics will include curricular options; admissions requirements; distribution of students by class and ethnic group; college climate and services offered.

You will travel with the group and stay at hotels in Haifa, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem.
Group accomodations begin on the evening of March 13 and end the morning of March 22

Costs
Tuition: Regular NYU Spring tuition plus fees; Housing and Activities fee: TBA (cost for 2008 was $1250)
Housing & activities fee due before the trip on Dec 1, 2008 . Spring tuition follows bursar's schedule.

Flight, Travel, and Visa Information
Flight: Students book their own travel to coincide with program dates. A bus will take students from the international airport in Tel Aviv to Haifa the morning of March 13. If you travel independently, arrive in Haifa by 5:00pm on March 13 and depart Tel Aviv on March 22. Steinhardt will assist with planning.
Passport: Valid passport required for US citizens. Please note that passport must have at least six months validation beyond the day of the intended entry into the country of travel.
Visa: A visa is not required for visits to Israel for US citizens for less than six months in duration.
